    I used to receive email responses from them but of late my last 3 emails on the subject of August update has gone unanswered. I am not sure about others but from my end I am seriously looking forward to this particular update as it supposedly fixes the mesh something I am in acute need of!

    As for Portal v 2.0 and the trade-in, etc. suggested I am not sure why Portal need to oblige except perhaps the initial marketing that their product will support 2+n mesh points.

    @Baivab. I have sent a few emails as well with no response. As for your latter statement, the company should either fix the issue with mesh to allow >2 for mesh as advertised or provide a new product to the customers that will accomplish the intended process as advertised.

    @Natejust: Agreed.

    However, there are so many instances when a product as advertised at the end does not function likewise. Some features are removed, etc.

    I know it's not a $200 item but my car new, when bought was advertised as having traffic but no, does not, even till date. Similarly, so many TVs, etc. are advertised with having app for a,b,c but does not. Its sad and frustrates a consumer to madness but its a reality. As long as the product team can produce sufficient evidence that they have tried various options but could not achieve it still, even from a litigation perspective they are safe.

    I agree. I am done as of today and will be working towards making my Velop system usable. I sent two support requests that have gone unanswered for quite a while now. There has been no acknowledgment on the website and frankly, I am fed up. I sent a support request requesting a refund for the two portals (my third was purchased through amazon) and if I don't get a response, I will pursue the issue through my credit card company. It seems like integrity has become a lost cause in business these days and that's a real shame. All they had to do was acknowledge the issue and I would have let it go (still will if I ever hear back). I can forgive mistakes, I won't forgive deceit.

    @Baivab

    A company that advertises a feature or misrepresents capabilities of their product needs to be held accountable. Sometimes it's as simple as brand loyalty or customer reviews. Often times it requires the support of larger consumer advocate organizations (luckily my credit card offers those services). The fact that your car advertised traffic services and did not supply them is unacceptable. As consumers, we are only rewarding manufacturers who lack integrity when we don't speak up loudly.

    Just my 2 cents for what it's worth

    I've held off with this as well...

    @Baivab,

    As we were told at the beginning the Portal is "based off of" OpenWRT, which virtually a plug and play toolkit for creating a router.

    I have never understood how it can take the IDL folks, months to implement a feature, which already exists.  They only need to install the plugin to OpenWrt, and maybe make a few tweaks.

    It isn't like they are creating this from scratch.

    I've considered purchase a second portal, but every time, I remind myself of the fact that they haven't even finished implementing the first one after a year's worth of work.

    Maybe if I heard from them, but I also have put in support tickets, and haven't heard back from them.

    This is not the way to develop repeat business from a customer.  The real issue, is that I don't know what I would go with next.  Apple's routers were excellent, but I doubt they'll continue with the Airport line.

    I'll probably have to look at the other mesh systems....  Or maybe see if I can scratch build an openwrt system.

    @Benjamin

    If you are looking for mesh, I am having some luck with Velop. Still working with them to iron out some kinks with degradation of the signal when meshed but I get rock solid stability and great coverage....and guess what, they answer my emails and call me back. Hear that IDL? So I'm not sure what you're looking for but it's something to consider.

    @waltkaplan, I'm stuck with Portal for now.  I can't afford to give up a "working" router.  Maybe later next year, I'll re-evaluate, but IDL certainly has a large hurdle in trying to get more money out of me.

    @Waltkaplan - its of course a decision you can take. Personally, I have reservations against almost all the meshed solutions available today. Velops - is great, coverage wise but they are extremely costly. Netgear Eero - is technically not a real mesh system but in terns of bandwidth - they beat Velops. Amplifi - another great product from professional grade leaders (Ubiquiti) but more tough to implement and their coverage is debatable.

    As for your comments regarding accountability and mis-representing facts I'd beg to differ. The ONLY aspect they have failed is +2 mesh. They have released almost all the requested features they promised they will and in record time. Other than once stating multiple mesh support they have NOT brought it up. In that same platform they offered their product as a pack of 2, never 3 or more. They after the production run never once stated anymore +2 mesh support. If you feel that 1 comment is justified to hold them accountable, that's your decision, of course.

    I have worked in 3 product companies. Time and again across the product world the decision has always been that a disgruntled consumer is bad however when they start venting, it's been proven in reality nothing bad will happen! Many have vented in leaving bad reviews for example in a product company I worked but after doing research, we found out of 100 known cases only 1, repeat 1 left a bad review. In reality what happens is those who vent most are usually the earliest to forget and move on and that happens as soon as they purchase the alternative.

    Best of luck regarding credit card company. Haven't heard of ANY company who'll refund after 6 months of usage and especially when the Terms and Conditions of Kickstarter are pretty specific regarding this. I remember where a consumer who did NOT receive the product tried a dispute and that too with AmEx and it ultimately failed.

    @Baivab. Thank you for the update. Even though you are not employed by the company, at least you are providing feedback to everyone. I, for one, appreciate your update and hope it is all that you expected it to be.

    @Natejust - no problem, I understand everyone's frustration. Trust me, I am in the same boat, perhaps worse off! As for timelines, I just saw something - Portal team is there, alive!! They updated the release schedule - from August to Sept. 15th. However, as per my "sources" Xmas might be as early as this Monday. Please keep your fingers : crossed.

    The timeline got updated with Sep 15, 2017 as the date. So it's not Wednesday but Friday. If they roll out the update on Wednesday or earlier the better.

    @Baivab

    Sometimes I can't seem to leave well enough alone. I do appreciate your comments and support in this forum but I marvel at your approach. I have worked in multiple commercial ventures throughout my lifetime and the rest I have spent in Public Safety, I can only imagine what would happen if I started to pick and choose which 911 calls a call taker should answer, which product features to implement for our public safety professionals after they were promised, which calls should be responded to after a promise was made to respond to all of them, which safety features promised to our responders should we actually deliver on. Granted these are all life safety issues and my wifi generally isn't but when does the truth become flexible? Is the truth only important in some scenarios and not others? If they promised a feature and that's why I bought their product, I deserve an explanation from the company, not a well-meaning consumer, as to why they can't or won't fulfill their promises. It doesn't matter that other companies do it all the time, shame on them as well. Whether they only said it once or a thousand times is really irrelevant. Sorry for the dramatics, but this really irks me.

    Sadly the latest firmware update has been delayed to 21 Sep 2017.  Hopefully the new update resolves the WAN speed cap at 750Mbps issue and the second Mesh portal not being able to connect at optimal speed even when next to each other!

    Looks like the Portal team has updated the Portal features timeline website and added a changelog for the new firmware (1.2.203) that's slated for release by 9/21.

    Correct. However, at this point I am not sure whether this long awaited patch will do anything! I do however keeping my fingers crossed!! In my case, for the last 2 months I've been more or less working with a single portal only whereby I have found its more stable than having 2 portals in mesh.

    I got a message on my phone that my Portal was updating, but now I cannot log in via the web or app.

    Anyone else having this issue?  I have no idea if the update was pushed and is causing this or if it might be due to something else.

    Looks ok to me. My connection is stable so far. Now that we have 802.11r, is an ethernet backhaul possible for 2 portals?

    My (2 wifi meshed) Portals updated this morning. I needed to do a manual power toggle to get decent speeds back on the second Portal, so far everything looks now.

    Also just got an Android app update for Portal with a new EasyMesh setup procedure...

    So what's the verdict?

    Are we seeing greater stability?

    Any one notice a difference with the beam forming enabled through the app?

    Anyone able to mesh a third router?! :(

    @Francis - there is no definitive date yet. Once available, I believe the timeline main post will be updated. At the very least I would assume EOY at a minimum

    @Baivab Are there any plans to introduce a more robust firewall as I've seen a couple feature requests for? Or any ability to filter content?

    @Trevor - I don't work @Portal however from what I know the COMING SOON portion is perhaps the final one. After which this Portal will be more on a support mode (fixes/etc.) and rare new features.

    In terms of content filtering - that's extremely tough for a consumer grade router to accomplish, as it taxes a bit the underlying hardware. In effect, routing/switching will suffer. I suggest you look at Squidguard or similar products for free content filtering.

    One ready option in Open DNS or FamilyShield option. There's also the free Norton Family Shield. All of which are free and can do quite good content filtering.

    Oh ok. I just got one (significantly better than my old Asus router). Is something new coming or is the product becoming retired? Hopefully I didn’t make a mistake...

    @All - I have moved on. After too much effort and time spent trying to get mesh working I have jumped to Ubiquiti Unifi line of products.

    Bought off-the-shelf a Unifi AC-AP-Lite, connected via cable to portal ; downloaded the Unifi app on iPhone ; scanned the QRCode of the AC-AP-Lite and bingo: all done. I now have Internet throughout.

    Later I added the Unifi gateway ($100) and put the free Unifi s/w in my desktop and now have 100 times more stable / 100 times higher range than ANYTHING I ever owned. It's like 1,2,3 and all done - configured and working. Speeds I get is 876 mbps locally! Range is tripled. Slowly building the system by just adding more access points - they can work in mesh (called UpLink in Unifi).

    I too am frustrated with my Portal Mesh but I live in an area that is extremely wifi saturated and Portal so far has been the only router to keep my speeds constant.  I am hoping that since Razer has partnered with IDL we will see some NEEDED change.  I was on the IDL website today and I see new products that I want to know more about.  The 1st being “Portal Boost” and the 2nd is called “Portal Boost Module”.  Does anyone know if this is the reason we are not seeing any updates to the Portal v1.0; they have moved on to Portal v2.0?  I wonder if I can upgrade my current portal hardware with this Portal Boost Module with the new ax standard that is being rolled out this year…and… will Portal Boost act has a 3rd node?  I am currently using the Netgear EX8000 as a 3rd node but; the only issues is that Netgear is still waiting for the DFS channel LIC for channel 100 so when Portal switches I only get a 2.4 gHz connection… which Portal does extremely poor with; 5 gHz is the Portal power house….when it works.
