When will we be able to hook up more then 2 portals? I have 4 of them and would like to start using them but so far all I see is support for 2 devices, when will you offer more?

When I left the house this morning I had successfully added all three of my portals to my network via mesh and everything was working fine. See my post above. I have 1 portal hard wired and two additional via mesh. Worked like a champ.

How did you set up two wirelessly when it has only been designed to operate one on mesh wirelessly?

I posted it a few posts above. I have solid green on all three routers. Will confirm when I get home but when I left all three where green. Is there another way to confirm? I didn't see anything through the app and just assumed if it was green that it was working. Will check again in about a half hour when I get home and see what signal strength looks like as well. Was in a rush this morning. I wasn't aware of the two portal limit, where is that posted?

I just attempted. It does not work. When you place the third portal in another room it goes orange.

It is meshed with the other wireless device and I do show it connected, however I don't see an increase in bandwidth when only having the one wirelessly, but a decrease. I don't think they have it ready for multiple portals on mesh yet.

Update:my three meshed routers have been working perfectly over the last month!!!  No drops, no device connectivity issues at all!  Way to go ignition design labs!!!

Not looking to argue, but I just checked and all three portals are green. I took my laptop and walked from portal to portal with the wifi off and hooked up an ethernet cable, my download was 150/150 (which is what I pay for). I can unequivocally say that it works perfectly for me. For the first time since I got these, I am very close to being happy. It definitely works with more than two.

If someone could please clarify, it would be most appreciated.

After configuring the second Portal and moving it to its new location, do I/can I hardwire it?  Can I connect my second portal to my network via WAN port and will it function correctly?

Unfortunately, the instructions aren't clear on this question.

    Much thanks

I just want to attempt to duplicate your results. Did you have both the second and the third router plugged into the main one at the same time?  What are the exact steps you took because I did not get that result when I did one and then the other.

    Thanks

Sure, happy to help. I know how frustrating it can be. I left my main hooked up and untouched. I unplugged my second portal that I had been using as a bridge and did a hard reset (paper clip in the back for 10 seconds) after I reset the device, I plugged it via ethernet directly into the main router through one of the Lan ports into the router I had just reset via its Wan port. I left it plugged in until it turned green. It definitely wasn't a quick process, I went and did some errands around the house this morning and then returned after a few minutes to check on it. Once it had turned a solid green, I unplugged it and placed it where I needed it. Once I completed one, I started on the next. That help?

That's essentially what I did. I will try again, but do a hard reset first to see if that will do it

Let me know how it works for you. One variable that I did not mention and am reluctant to change now that everything is working, is the fact that I still maintain two separate networks (2.4 and 5). Haven't built up the courage yet to change everything since it's working so well.

It didn't.  Lucky you!  I guess I will wait until January to get it running. Happy holidays!!!

Will we ever be able to mesh together more than 2 portals? For example the new Google WiFi router connects up to 3 wirelessly

@David on the KS they said at some point the numbers of portals are infinite.

If I remember correctly they also said they have hooked up as many as 3 via Wifi mesh and I think 5 wired.

I have 4 myself so I'm hoping for this feature sooner then later

Anyone else experiencing 'all over the place' speeds?

Both are configured and deployed as a wired mesh; however speedtests return disturbingly inconsistent data.

For example, a few tests will return 200/20 (my service pkg); however not 2 min later in the exact same spot I'm getting 20/5 (or worse).

I have confirmed a wired PC doesn't experience this.

If you have one SSID you could be flip flopping between 2.4 and 5g when you are running the test!

I truly hope not, because that completely defeats the purpose of a true mesh network and basically means I wasted $300 on this as a solution.

Because no one else's mesh solution (Google, Netgear, Luma, etc) behaves like that.  The network's supposed to be 'self-healing' and steer you to the 'best' signal for your given device: not expect you to disconnect/reconnect because it can't do the job.

Otherwise, it's no different than deploying 2-3 non-smart routers/APs and manually moving channels myself.

Someone from IDL really needs to clarify what's going on, please.

@waltkaplan Not sure how or why, but I plugged my third router in again, waited five minutes and it works!  I have three routers meshed!

@natejust glad to hear and happy for you. Curious if you use a single ssid or seperate ones for the 2.4 and 5 bands? I'm too chicken to change anything while everything is working.

@Waltkaplan I tried single SSID. I am happier with two SSIDs at this point.  Once they further refine bandsterring I may try it again.

I have two Portals meshed using a single SSID with no issues.

I would really like to see the following items schedule pushed up please

    • IPv6 support (native dual-stack)
    • QoS
    • Port Triggering

Anything that connects to the second Portal via Mesh is showing up in the device list as wired. I have eight items in my wired list, when in reality, I only have two wired devices.

My test: My iPhone, which was next to the first wired Portal, showed up in the 5 GHz List (which also proves that Adaptive Band Steering is still working). I placed my iPhone directly next to my second, wireless mesh Portal and it is now showing up in the Wired Device List.

I also expected my new model Amazon Fire TV Box to connect at 5 GHz to my second meshed Portal since it is much closer, but it still connects to the 2.4 GHz band on Channel 1.

Hopefully the next firmware updated will fix this issue.

Would be nice to see some realtime and past analysis in the webinterface or app.

    - How much traffic is and was each device consuming

    - With what speed and how many channels is each device connected

    - etc.

@Christopher Wansing I'd love to see that. I really need it with my data cap and always going over it. Now I have no way of knowing how much I'm using and have to rely on my ISP.

I wish we had a lot of features. I'm really disappointed in this thing overall. It has barley any features and any new ones just keep getting delayed.

I already shelved mine due to frustrations with it already, the lack of features on it might lead me to do so again. I regret backing so many of them that's for sure

Even something simple like giving meaningful names to devices is not possible.
That would be a game changer that is so easy to implement. Please please do that! I am tired of seeing 10 or more devices named android-4a6384858584636ef7a
    oo a like.

Support has told me that support for 3 portals in a mesh (i.e. a true mesh!) will be coming within the next couple of months. It would be great to see this in the timeline.

I have a Tablo on my network (an over-the-air DVR). It allows remote access to watch TV programs, buy requires port forwarding. I can set what the external port is, but the internal ports are fixed. It appears the Portal only allows port forwarding for exact same port numbers both internally and externally. This seems extremely odd as that is not normal.

Is this really the case or am I missing something? Will this ever be fixed?

Jeff, are you looking for port triggering? I have a Synology server and I just finished setting up port forwarding in the Portal WebUI and all I had to do was enter the ports I wanted to open in the Inbound Rules section and things are working as they should. But perhaps I do not know exactly what the Tablo requires.
