What does Mesh mobile app only mean? You can't configure the wifi mesh without your phone?
@Ming thats correct. You will need a mobile phone to configure mesh.
An update on the features - all features are enabled and currently undergoing rigorous testing. During testing we identified critical issues leading us to delay the update by one week.
We intend to deliver all the features that the community has asked for and want to make sure that they are delivered with top notch quality. Thank you for your patience and support!
I wish I would have known that the promised features on the Kickstarter page were to come in batches....I have a need for VPN and I can't even use this router until this feature comes online which is TBD......
@Corey - thanks for letting us know about your need for VPN. Here is a VPN thread with more information; please let us know if there are any use cases you care about that are not covered.

To whom
I hopefully will receive my unit in the next few days
While I think it is great that so many features are available, I am of the Luddite branch of technology
Is there a basic thread that will address my issues and questions that are very basic
I.e. Do yo lose a lot if placed behind glass. How do you connect if your computer is a desktop and movable to directly connect to the Portal via an Ethernet cable
Thanks
Michael
@Michael - happy to answer any questions you have. I have opened a support ticket for you. Glass should not be a problem if you are trying to place the Portal inside a television cabinet. Desktop computer via ethernet works if your desktop does not have WiFi.
Hi,
If this is not the correct place for feature requests, please let me know.
I have two requests:
1) Set a Mac Address. I would like to see the Portal router support setting it's own MAC address for the wired interface. This would be extremely helpful when adding a portal router to an existing network in order to comply with MAC address filtering and to facilitate replacing an existing router with this nice, new shinny Portal router.
2) VPN support on the router. This may be limited by the processing power of the Portal router, but I would love to see native VPN support so that all my traffic can be encrypted by default when it leaves the router. If you are looking for protocol support, here is how I would be using this feature: https://support.hidemyass.com/hc/en-us/articles/202720956-Router-VPN-configuration-Getting-started
Thank you so much for considering these!
Paul
@Paul - we will be supporting both! Here is a VPN thread.

Hello,
I just want to confirm that there is no way to wirelessly connect two portals until the mesh update is released the week of the 21st? Is that correct? Thanks
@Waltkaplan - yes, that's correct.
Only option would be to use an Ethernet cable since there is no way to use it as a wireless bridge. Any possibility to release the mesh software earlier? Happy to be a beta tester. I have two portals. Thanks
@Waltkaplan - mesh undergoing heavy testing right now; current eta is still week of 21st.
did the Nov 7 features get released yet?
Nope.
Does say the week of Nov 7... guess I'll check back at the end of the week...
Hi folks - features are released for week of Nov. 7
Any way to force check for updates? Portal still says up to date.
Omg, yes!! At least list the last time it checked.
Can viewing the attached devices show their connection type? 5ghz, wired etc.
this DHCP reservation is NOT EVEN CLOSE to a static IP.
The MAC filtering is nonsensically implemented. All it can do is deny devices that are currently connected?
The same goes for the DHCP reservations - why doesn't it allow to set the hostname in local DNS? I'd rather not have to memorize the IP addresses of my home fileserver, etc.
Did the November 21 features roll out already?
did the 11/21 update go out? I'm attempting to set up 2nd Portal via Mesh from iOS app, but I don't see any feature to enable this :(
Update on the new firmware image:
The new firmware will be released to customers on 11/29. We are adding in band steering support. Mesh has been delayed due to issues discovered during our testing. We want to ensure a smooth user experience and not have any downtime of your network - for this reason we believe it's best to remove mesh from this release.
That's great finally band steering we will be able to use one SSID now =) can't wait for it thank you for the update
Hi,
While I do appreciate the early release of band steering, it only minimally helps those of us eagerly awaiting mesh support. One of the primary reasons I purchased portal was for the mesh capabilities in conjunction with the speed. I do hope the delay wont be too long as I have a total of three portals (two hardwired and one just hanging loose) in waiting. How much longer do you expect to delay the release of the feature?
Thanks, Walt
How long is mess delayed?
Looks like Mesh is coming in the December 5th release. Too bad; my second Black Portal is just sitting in the box waiting.
I hope tonight's update goes smoothly. Band steering will be nice.
Did the update roll out already?
