In certain situations, you may wish to keep the WiFi router that is part of the gateway operating. Some, ISPs (such as Verizon FiOS) require that you use their WiFi router for their video services. You should check with your ISP on their specific requirements.
- Power the gateway off by unplugging the power cord or tuning the power switch off
- Use the Ethernet cable that was shipped with your Portal to connect the Ethernet port in the back of the gateway to the LAN port in the back of Portal
- Power on the gateway and then your Portal
The only difference is that the Ethernet cable connects the Ethernet port in the gateway to one of the Ethernet ports in Portal, rather than the WAN port.
You will also need to configure Portal in bridge mode in this situation. Your WiFi network will benefit from all of the features and capabilities of Portal, except the WiFi router in the gateway will provide the firewall.
